Piers & channel access
The Lake Michigan pierheads, navigation channel and Muskegon Lake are different fishing settings. Match your destination to the conditions, and follow posted access signs.
LAKE MICHIGAN ENTRANCE
South channel & Pere Marquette pier area
DNR identifies the south channel and pier as public fishing access. Use designated approaches from the Pere Marquette side; access to an outer breakwater is not guaranteed.
Check posted barriers and the marine forecast before walking out.
DNR lists an accessible fishing pier and a fish-cleaning station in the Snug Harbor day-use area. This is lake-side access inside Muskegon Lake, not the Lake Michigan pierhead.
The park’s page still carries a walkway and adjacent parking closure notice with an August 2026 end date. Reopening has not been confirmed for this guide.
Call the park before planning to fish the walkway.
These launches enter Muskegon Lake. Reaching Lake Michigan requires a run through the navigation channel. Launch parking passes and beach parking passes are separate.

Launch at the east end of Muskegon Lake with vehicle/trailer spaces, restrooms and a fish-cleaning station. Camping is adjacent; launch fees are separate.
Reserve directly with the marina. Confirm arrival arrangements, boat dimensions and seasonal fuel-dock hours.
